Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a progressive condition in which the cornea, the clear dome-shaped surface at the front of the eye, gradually becomes thinner and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. As the cornea changes, light entering the eye can no longer focus properly on the retina, leading to increasingly distorted or blurred vision. Patients may also experience sensitivity to light, frequent prescription changes, and difficulty achieving clarity with traditional glasses.

Because Keratoconus alters the surface of the cornea, many individuals eventually require specialty contact lenses designed to provide more stable and precise vision than standard lenses can offer.

Historically, many patients have been fit with rigid gas permeable lenses to manage keratoconus, but these lenses can be challenging or uncomfortable for some to wear on a daily basis. That is why advanced soft lens technology has become such a meaningful option.

Dr. Laura Fiorenza fits the Bausch + Lomb Arise lens for the greatest comfort. Below is a patient testimonial about this lens.
